The Development Authority of the North Country in partnership with Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is sponsoring six household hazardous waste collection events free to residents of the 3 counties during the upcoming year. These events are being held to give residents a disposal outlet for unwanted hazardous materials such as pesticides, oil based paints and fluorescent bulbs. The first event will be held at the St. Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Gouverneur on May 14, 2011 from 9:00 amto 1:00 pm. This event is open to any resident of the tri-county area. In addition, St. Lawrence County is sponsoring an electronics collection event and a pharmaceutical / controlled substance collection event to be held concurrently with the household hazardous waste collection. The remaining household hazardous waste collection events will be held in Carthage, Clayton, Lowville, Massena and Watertown. Dates and times will be publicized when finalized.
