On Thursday, August 16, the Development Authority will hold its annual Open House at the regional landfill, 23400 Route 177, Rodman, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Bus tours of the facility will be available and equipment used at the landfill will be on display. In addition, visitors can learn about what other divisions of the Development Authority do through hands-on exhibits. Many of the Authority’s partners will also have exhibits, including Fort Drum, North Country Recycles, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Tug Hill Commission. There will be activities for kids, including making a craft out of recycled plastic and generating electricity to run a blender that makes smoothies! Visitors who come during the first hour of the event will have the opportunity to see a “working” landfill because the facility will still be open to haulers during that time. Everyone who visits will have the opportunity to win a home composter! Signage and attendants will direct visitors to parking and the tours.
