Kids will have the opportunity to use their artistic talents to send recycling messages out into the world at the Development Authority’s annual Open House August 22 from 4-6 p.m. at the regional landfill in Rodman.
Kids will use weather-resistant paint to decorate rocks with recycling messages. The rocks will be hidden by staff members along the Authority’s three recreational trails: Kanik Trail in Calcium, and the Murray and Glasier trails at the landfill. A message on the underside of each rock will encourage the finder to take a photo of the rock, re-hide it, and post the photo to the North Country Recycles Facebook page with the hashtag: #recyclingrocks.
In addition to the kids’ activity, there will be guided bus tours of the facility, featuring the landfill expansion construction area, exhibits on what the Authority does, displays by partner organizations, live birds of prey, displays of equipment used to operate the landfill and lots more.
This year visitors may also be hardcover books to the open house to be recycled.
