Fort Drum Soldiers

The Development Authority recently completed the installation of two solar powered flow metering sites in the Gardner Tract of the Town of Pamelia as part of the RT3 Sewer Project. Each site includes a solar panel, flow meter, and remote telemetry unit that allows the Authority to continuously monitor operating conditions at the site and allow remote readings of the flow meter for billing purposes.

The Development Authority of the North Country announces $45,000 in low-interest loans through its inaugural Maple Producers Demonstration Program. Those receiving assistance are Charles Farney, Farney’s Finest, Lowville; Thomas Bain, Val’s Maple Kitchen, Redwood; and Kenneth Tupper, Hilltop Maple Treats, Canton. Funds will be used to increase the production of maple syrup through the purchase of new equipment and the addition of taps.

The project at our Warneck Pump Station is about 80% complete and will be finished later this year. The expansion project is being completed in conjunction with Leadership in Energy and Environmental (LEED) silver requirements. The picture shows the North side of the warehouse at the back of the facility and the permeable pavement that will allow rainwater and snow melt to percolate into the soil instead of running off into the nearby streams, thereby protecting water quality.

The Authority’s Board of Directors voted May 26, 2011 to increase its set-aside funds for rental housing projects from $1.2 million to $3 million as part of a concentrated effort to address Fort Drum’s housing needs.
