The Development Authority has recently awarded an additional $45,000 in low-interest loans to maple producers in St. Lawrence County.  Michael Kenney, (d/b/a Sweeter Creations Sugarhouse), Madrid, received $15,000 and David Noble (d/b/a Noble Farm), Canton, received $30,000 both for reverse osmosis machines, vacuum systems and tubing in order to increase maple syrup volumes.  The goal of the Maple Producers Demonstration Program is to increase productivity for ...

The Development Authority of the North Country announces $45,000 in low-interest loans through its inaugural Maple Producers Demonstration Program. Those receiving assistance are Charles Farney, Farney's Finest, Lowville; Thomas Bain, Val's Maple Kitchen, Redwood; and Kenneth Tupper, Hilltop Maple Treats, Canton. Funds will be used to increase the production of maple syrup through the purchase of new equipment and the addition of taps.

Recognizing that agribusiness is a growing segment of our regional economy, the Development Authority of the North Country has capitalized a Value-Added Agricultural Program that will provide assistance to maple producers in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties in order to increase productivity.   The program has been initially funded with $200,000 from the Authority's Community Development Loan Fund.

On July 19, 2011, Empire State Development and the Research Foundation of SUNY, on behalf of the college at Plattsburgh, announced the launch of the Adirondack-Champlain Telemedicine Information Network (ACTION) in the North Country.   The Development Authority won the bid to construct the $9.8 million fiber optic network through the Adirondack Park.   The Authority plans to bid the project in August.  Click Here...
