Open House at Regional Landfill August 24

A lot has happened at the regional landfill since 2019 - come and see for yourself! The Development Authority of the North Country will hold an open house at the regional Materials Management Facility in Rodman on August 24 from 4-6 p.m.

A whole new section of the landfill has opened and visitors will be able to tour the expansion as well as the original section of the landfill. The landfill expansion ensures that residents of the tri-county region will have an environmentally sound, sustainable solution for waste disposal for the next 50 years.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to bring hardcover books they no longer want to the open house for recycling. Paperback books may already be included with your normal recycling items, but hardcover books typically must be disposed of in the landfill as waste. The Authority works in partnership with the Northern New York Library System to recycle hardcover books.

Guided tours of the entire facility will be available and provide an excellent opportunity for residents to understand exactly what happens to their waste after they put it out by the curb for pick-up or take it to a transfer station.

Visitors will also be able to learn about what the Development Authority does in addition to operating the regional landfill. Exhibits and displays will feature the economic development work the Authority does, wastewater plant operation staff provides for municipalities, the history and future of the Authority's broadband network, recycling education, GIS drone work and much more.
