Lewis County residents will have the opportunity to recycle unwanted or leftover paint at a free monthly collection offered by Lewis County and PaintCare, a non-profit recycling organization. The Development Authority of the North Country is assisting with the coordination of the effort.
The take-back collections will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month (beginning April 17) throughout the spring, summer and fall at the Lewis County Transfer Site, 7952 NYS Route 26, Lowville. Residents will no longer have to wait for a Household Hazardous Waste collection event to safely dispose of their unused paint.
The following coatings will be accepted at these PaintCare events, in five-gallon containers or less:
Paints must be in their original, sealed containers with their original labels.
These collections are for residents only. Businesses can reach out to PaintCare directly to arrange for a large-scale pickup of over 100 gallons. For more information, see www.northcountryrecycles.org/PaintCare.
